This school went under a full gut and rehab process in 2012/2013. As a popular school in the District, the decision was made to turn the building into a K-8 educational complex. SEI worked with the District and faculty to create the vision for the future of the school, utilizing shared common spaces, but also separating grade levels into three small “educational communities”. (K-2, 3-5 and 6-8).
SEI Design Group completed a study for the Syracuse City School District on the District’s H.W. Smith Elementary School. This study was the first step in developing a project scope to fully modernize and expand the school. The reconstruction project included a new bus loop, media center (library, computer lab, small group room, meeting rooms, and parent room), art room, technology suite, home and careers room, middle school office, and a six-classroom addition. There were also renovations to the main office and an upgrade for a new health center. This project incorporated green building design to meet LEED Silver status.
