Holley, NY | Kitchen and Dining Addition | 2012

BIG idea

"Nested curved walls"

Details
The scope of work included additions, renovations, site work to renovate the school’s kitchen and expand the cafeteria. The location of the cafeteria interrupted views to the adjacent sports fields. The design responded to this concern by curving the exterior wall thus eliminating the outside corner. Subsequent interior nested curved walls help organize the eating areas from the entry and the serving lines.  Materials such as cultured stone; patterned glass and floating acoustical clouds reinforce the design concept of the initial concept.

District voters approved a $27.4 million capital project in May, 2010. The scope of work included additions, renovations, sitework, and a new bus maintenance facility. The Middle/High School underwent renovations to meet code, safety, and performance standards; kitchen/cafeteria renovation and expansion; PE and gym renovation and expansion to accommodate storage, fitness, and wrestling needs; roof replacement; site improvements; new light courts to bring in natural daylighting; and, fire alarm, telephone system, security, and technology upgrades. The elementary school received upgrades to meet ADA compliance; improvements to toilet rooms, gym, and locker rooms; roof replacement; site improvements; and, fire alarm, telephone system, security, and technology upgrades.

A new bus garage and new all-weather track surface, field storage, and toilet room facilities completed the project.

SEI is currently working on a subsequent project, approved by District voters on December 9, 2014.  This $8.95 capital improvement project involves renovations and sitework at both the elementary and middle/high schools.
